Every stakeholder at (MS)2 must agree that we will do whatever it takes to ensure that every young person that enters our school is given every opportunity to achieve their personal goals. Mission

Howard University Math and Science PCS’ mission is to provide a sound foundation in all academic subjects, with a concentration in mathematics and science; the intellectual, social and emotional growth of each student will be nurtured, while an appreciation for diversity and sensitivity of all individuals will be encouraged in an enriched educational environment that will prepare students to succeed in high school and beyond.

FAQ

When are applications due and how do I apply?

The Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science participates in the My School DC application and lottery process. Applications open on December 11, 2017. Thee deadline is March 1, 2018. Once the lottery results are released on March 30, 2018, parents of accepted students must complete the enrollment documentation and interview process at the middle school to confirm your space for the next academic year. May I schedule a tour of the school and can my child accompany me?

How many openings do you anticipate at each grade level?

We expect to accept at least 120 new 6th graders. We anticipate limited spaces available for new 7th and 8th grade students.

What is the earliest students can arrive?

Students have access to the building beginning at 7:00 am. Breakfast will be served at 7:30 am. Homeroom begins at 7:50 am. Students are marked tardy at 8:00 am.

Are students required to wear a uniform? If so, how much does it cost?

Yes, students are required to wear the standard (MS)2 uniform, which includes a (MS)2 polo shirt, blue pants/skirt, all black shoes and a clear backpack. The polo shirt much be purchased in our business office for $15. We also sell (MS)2 cardigans for $35. The (MS)2 cardigan or jacket are the only jackets that can be worn. Uniform bottoms and shoes can be purchased at any retailer . Other requirements include a brown or black belt, and white, black, or brown socks. Shirts and sweaters can be purchased on our website or in the business office from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

What is the teacher-student ratio?

The ratio is no more than 21:1 in each class.

Does HU(MS)2 provide bus or van service?

We do not provide door-to-door bus or van service. Transportation services are arranged for students with IEP mandating this. Parents are encouraged to carpool. Students traveling by public transportation have access to the Howard University student shuttle service from the Shaw/Howard University Metro Station only. Our Howard University campus location is served by the 70/79 buss that runs along the 7th Street,Georgia Avenue, NW corridor. Students get off the bus at Howard Place, NW stop. From there they walk a short distance to the school.

Does HU(MS)2 offer before and after-care?

We do not currently offer before or after-school care. Students are allowed to access the building beginning at 7:00 am. Our school day includes an extended day program for every student that runs from 4:00 – 5:30 pm. All students must be picked up by 5:30 pm.

What about tuition?

HU (MS)2 is a public charter school. District of Columbia residents attend for free and have priority status for admission. We do accept applications from non-residents. There is an out-of-state tuition that is determined and managed by the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education. We cannot tell you the exact amount because the formula differs every year. Proof of payment is required before your child can attend school.

What interscholastic sports are offered at HU(MS)2?

We currently offer volleyball, cross-country, cheerleading, indoor track, baseball, softball, and lacrosse.

What other extracurricular are offered?

Students have the option to participate in (MS)2’s Extended Day Program from 4:00 – 5:30 pm. Club offerings include: Cheerleading, Men of Excellence Mentorship Program, (MS)2 News, Robotics, Student Government Association and Yearbook.
